wellnessThe RWC complements what we do at NMI helping correcting the pathology and preventing it from progressing resulting in improvement of pain and function. The RWC has two departments working working in harmony helping patients; the regenerative and wellness departments.
The regenerative department uses multiple therapies including hyaluronic acid joint fluid therapy (Visco-supplement), prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy. These therapy target degenerative disorders and trauma including tendinopathies, injured ligament and muscles, osteoarthritis and disc disease.

The wellness department focus is nutrition and body esthetics. We have our own line of vitamins and supplements that the patient can chose from (LifeCure) to help improve their wellbeing. Some of those supplements are used to target specific problems such as insomnia, pain, inflammation, memory deficit and excess weight. The esthetic program focusses on reshaping the body with the ZERONA® and Venus Concept Freeze® where patients can rid of excess fat and scar tissue, tighten their skin and give them a better look and self-esteem.

Prolotherapy, is a technique where a mixture of glucose, lidocaine and normal saline (in a precise ratio) are injected around and inside the joint, tendons and affected area. The concept behind it is to trigger a controlled inflammatory reaction around the affected area allowing the blood to flow into the area with cytokines, and growth factors that promote healing and repair; therefore, the degenerative process is reversed and eventually pain subsides.
Prolotherapy is usually given in a series of three to five injections in and around the joint structure, ligaments and tendons, to stimulate the body’s own mechanism to repair and strengthen joint tissues. It addresses the cause of pain from the degeneration and injury of joints, tendons and ligaments by strengthening the surrounding ligamentous structure and restoring joint stability.
Conditions that are treated with prolotherapy include: osteoarthritis, tennis elbow, knee pain, hip pain, golfer’s elbow, ACL/PCL Injury, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, epicondylitis, thumb, wrist, and hand pain, shoulder pain, ankle sprain, foot pain, osteoarthritis of the knee, thrower’s elbow, plantar Fasciitis
and patients wanting to avoid joint surgery.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP procedure is performed by taking one own blood, process it to separate the platelets from the red blood cells then inject the platelets back into the affected area. Those platelets separated from the blood are rich with growth factors, stem cell markers and cytokines that promote healing, repair and regeneration. This is done by signaling for Stem cells and regenerative cells to repair and rebuild the damaged tissue. This in turn accelerate the healing process reduces pain, increases strength, and improves overall function. The process, called the healing cascade, can be active and take place over a 4-6-week period.
PRP is from the patient’s own blood, autologous, so there is little to no risk when conducted by a trained professional. Since the cells are autologous there is no risk for an allergic or immune reaction. Side effects or complications with PRP are extremely rare.
Patients can expect to see significant improvement in symptoms over the course of healing time. This procedure may eliminate the need for further invasive treatments, such as surgery or prolonged use of medications. Patients usually report a gradual improvement in symptoms and return of function. Many patients require two to three treatments to obtain optimal results and may even experience a dramatic return of function and relief within 2-3 months.
Diseases that are treated with PRP are chronic tendinosis, golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, achilles tendinosis, rotator cuff tendinosis and plantar fasciitis.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cell therapy is an outpatient procedure done in the doctor’s office. It involves the injection of concentrated regenerative cells into a joint, muscle, tendon or ligament injured or degenerated to repair it and minimize the pain associated with it. The injection can be used to treat acute injury, long term musculoskeletal degeneration, peripheral vascular disease, disc disease and many other degenerative disorders. Stem cells are usually obtained from the patient’s own body’s bone marrow, or fat then processed to isolate adult mesenchymal cells that are capable of differentiating into bone cartilage, muscle, tendon, ligament and peripheral arteries. The concentrate is then injected back into the affected area
Some of the conditions treated with stem cell therapy are osteoarthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, muscle injuries, disc disease, and peripheral vascular disease. There are many other degenerative disorders that are also being treated with stem cell therapy such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure and many other disorders.
The source of the stem cells is typically the iliac crest or the tibia bone. Another source of mesenchymal cells is the fat from the abdomen, hip or buttock. After harvesting the aspirate, it is separated through special processing to isolate the stem cells.

Decompression Therapy (DRX9000, DRX9000c)

Image 017Our center houses the DRX-9000 and DRX 9000c that are considered part of the regenerative medicine. This technology is indicated for lower back, thoracic and neck pain caused by disc disease. It has proven in clinical trials to have high success rate in treating pain and functionality better than surgery and conventional therapies. This technology works by creating a negative pressure between the vertebras allowing the bulging or herniated disc to retract away from the nerve root and through the phenomenon of osmosis, fluids and nutrients seeps into the disc making it healthier and better. This in return improves pain and function. Considering the cost and disability from spine surgery, the DRX is an excellent option for patients to consider.

Image 018ZERONA® is a new body-sculpting procedure designed to remove fat and contour the body without invasive surgery. It allows the patient to continue his/her daily activities without interruptions from surgery, pain or wounds. It works by utilizing the laser assisted liposuction to emulsify adipose tissue which then releases into the interstitial space. The excess fat is passed through the body during its normal course of detoxification. The ZERONA® procedure was proven through a double-blind, randomized, multi-site, and placebo controlled study in which patients averaged a loss of 3.5 inches compared to the control group that lost only a half an inch.
ZERONA® targets the stubborn fat areas and painlessly melts the fat under skin. Then natural detoxification system simply eliminates the fat from the body. ZERONA® is usually done through six quick and painless treatments. You simply lie under ZERONA® for 20 minutes on your front and 20 minutes on your back. Unlike minimally-invasive or traditional liposuction, ZERONA® allows you to continue your daily activities without any interruption.

Venus Concept Freeze®

Image 019Venus Concept Freeze® is a revolutionary technology that offers a non-invasive skin tightening, cellulite reduction and circumferential fat reduction. The device delivers multi-polar radiofrequency and Pulsed Magnetic Fields to the skin to produce a dense and uniform heat matrix. This causes collagen synthesis and contraction, fibroblast proliferation, neo-vascularity and lipolysis. The face, neck and entire body can all be treated with this therapy. Patients usually notice tighter skin, softening of wrinkles, plumper, fuller and more youthful appearance, reduced cellulite and a more contoured silhouette after the course of treatment is completed. The number of treatments required will vary patient to patient, but typically, 6 treatments for the face and 6-8 for the neck and body. From a safety stand point, radiofrequency and magnetic pulses have been used in medicine for many years and are proven, safe and effective technologies.
